A Discovery Flight is the ultimate, fun way to experience what it is like to actually fly a helicopter! As one of Utah's premier Flight Training Academy's, High Desert Helicopters delights in "Fueling the Passion of Fight in Everyone." Our Discovery Flight is the perfect introduction to experience being a real helicopter pilot. During your Discovery Flight you will be involved in each stage of flight, from takeoff to landing. You will have the opportunity, with the help of your instructor pilot, to experience what it is like to pilot the helicopter one control at a time. During your flight you will learn how to hover and fly the helicopter while taking a short tour over the Ogden valley. It is the ultimate helicopter experience!

Where are you located? top

High Desert Helicopters is located at Ogden Hinckley Airport in Ogden, Utah. Our operations and hangar are located on the east side of the airport. Our address is 3483 Airport Road, Ogden Hinckley Airport, Ogden Utah. The easiest way to get to our location is by taking I-15 to the new 31st Street exit, head west to the first light and turn south onto Airport Road. We are the 5th hangar on the right side of the street. Just look for the High Desert Helicopters sign!!

Do I get to experience flying the helicopter? top

Yes! You and one of our professional certified flight instructors will take flight; each flight control will be given to you individually so you can experience the unique part each control takes during flight. Once your instructor pilot has taught you the basics at altitude you will return to the airport and try your hand at hovering the helicopter. This will prove to be one of the most exhilarating experiences you will ever have. It is commonly known to inflict a permanent "PERMA-SMILE" to faces of all ages! Currently, there is no known surgery to remove this amazing effect!!

Where do we fly on the Discovery Flight? top

You will depart from Ogden Hinckley airport and climb to approximately 500' above the surface and fly to the Pleasant View\North Ogden area which is about five miles north of the Airport then return to the airport to practice hovering the helicopter

Can anyone take a Discovery Flight? top

We would like to say "Yes" to everyone, but there are a couple limitations. High Desert Helicopters, LLC has a safety program that states "the age limit is no children younger than 12 years of age", however there is no upper age limit. We also have an operating weight limit of the helicopter which limits us carrying passengers over 245 pounds. With all of us at High Desert Helicopters safety takes precedence over all aspects of fight operations.

Can multiple people fly together? top

Unfortunately not in the same helicopter, however if the schedule permits we do have multiple helicopters that can take Discovery Flights. At High Desert Helicopters we fly the Schweizer 300C helicopter, the same helicopter that is used by the military to train their own pilots. The 300C is a three place helicopter but when used for training we limit passengers to one, plus the pilot for a total of two.

What kind of helicopter will I ride in? top

You will be flying a US manufactured helicopter, the Schweizer 300C formally the Hughes 269 helicopter. This helicopter has been used in training our US Military with 100's of pilots trained and over 20,000,000 twenty million flight hours with a proven safety record. What does the Discovery Flight include? top

In addition to a permanent "PERMA-SMILE", your half hour flight will take you to approximately 500 ft above the surface and include a bird's eye view of some of the most beautiful scenery the state of Utah has to offer. You will also get the chance to try your hand at the controls learning each of the 4 different control inputs needed to fly a helicopter. Not only will you be able to fly the helicopter during cruise flight, but learn to hover it as well. If that is not enough!! Your Discovery Flight also includes your choice of a High Desert Helicopters T-Shirt or cap that shows you really DID IT! Oh, and the experience of a lifetime with memories you will talk about for years to come.

How are the Gift Cards packaged? top

High Desert Helicopter Gift Certificates are individually numbered credit card style Gift Certificates that come in an awesome fold over holder. Inside the holder is a place for you to personalize who they are for and who they are from. Once your order is received, we will fulfill your order and mail them to you in a plain envelope so we don't spoil the surprise. If your order includes multiple Gift Cards we can either mail them directly to you or mail them individual to each recipient if you would like us to do so. Is there a weight limit? top

For safety reasons there is a weight limit of 245 pounds for passengers. While our Schweizer 300C helicopters can carry up to three persons we limit all operations for training and Discovery Flights to a maximum of two individuals both the passenger and instructor pilot.
